What Agoraphobia Really Is — And Why You’re Not Broken
(Plus, How Hypnosis Can Help You Heal Without Leaving Your Home) People often misunderstand agoraphobia.
They think it means you’re afraid of crowds… or of open spaces… or that you “just don’t want to go out.” But for the people who live with it — the people I’ve worked with over the years — it’s so much deeper than that. Agoraphobia is not about space. It’s not about shopping malls or sidewalks or supermarkets. It’s about people. And more specifically, it’s about what people have done. If You Can’t Leave the House — There’s a Reason
Agoraphobia almost never starts for no reason. In fact, in all the regress-to-cause sessions I’ve done with agoraphobic clients, the root cause has always involved abuse — often in childhood, and almost always from another person. |
That doesn’t mean someone has to relive trauma or even know exactly what happened in advance.
But what I’ve found — time and time again — is this:
When something traumatic happens in the presence of another person, the mind doesn’t just remember the event.
It remembers the setting. The place. The people. The feeling of being exposed or unsafe or unprotected.
And it says:
“Out there is dangerous. Being around people is dangerous. You’re safer if you stay home.”
It’s not irrational. It’s not “all in your head.”
It’s a very smart brain doing its best to protect you from something it never got to fully process.

But That Protection Can Become a Prison
For many people, agoraphobia starts small.
Maybe you stop going to the supermarket.
Then you avoid public transport.
Then friends. Then family events.
Then one day, you realise you haven’t left the house in months — or years.
And it’s not because you’re lazy or antisocial.
It’s because something inside you is trying to keep you safe — but it doesn’t know the danger is over.

Why Hypnosis Helps (Especially Now)
In the past, helping people with agoraphobia was incredibly difficult — because the people who needed help the most couldn’t get to the help.
They couldn’t get on a bus.
They couldn’t walk into a clinic.
They couldn’t even imagine sitting in a strange waiting room with strangers.
But now, everything’s changed.
With video call hypnotherapy, people can get help without ever leaving the house.
They can feel safe.
They can stay in control.
They can work through what’s underneath the fear — gently, privately, and at their own pace.

What I Do (And What You Can Expect)
I always begin with a free 15-minute video call consultation — just to meet and make sure we’re a good fit.
Then I guide you through a Foundation Session where I show you how hypnosis works, how to get the most out of it, and how we’ll move forward together.
Only after that do we begin the deeper work.
Most of my clients with agoraphobia begin to feel real change within just a few sessions.
Once we uncover the cause — and the mind realises it no longer needs to “lock the doors” — things start to shift naturally.
And no, you don’t need to talk about every detail.
You don’t even need to remember everything consciously.
You just need to feel safe, guided, and ready to heal.

You’re Not Alone
If you’re reading this and you haven’t left the house in a long time — I want you to know something:
You’re not weak.
You’re not broken.
You’re not hopeless.
You’ve been protecting yourself for a very good reason.
And maybe now…
with the right help…
you’re ready to step gently back into the world — not because you’re forced to, but because you feel safe again.
